The Eighth Annual

Gingerbread Extravaganza

Many of the houses on display at the Eighth Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza were created by students at Oberlin High School. Donna Shurr, who teaches Home Economics, Childhood Development, and Food and Nutrition, helped students in all three of her classes make gingerbread and graham cracker houses. Here are a few pictures of her students at work. Click on the thumbnails to see a larger image.

First, the students made cardboard models of their houses

Hagar Gerber and Nick Saunders stand next to a cardboard model of their gingerbread house, 'The Great House of Color'. Joy Iroff-Reinoehl with a cardboard model of her 'Dutch Colonial'.

Then, they made the gingerbread and adorned it with all sorts of tasty decorations.

Jessica Howell and Antonia Romano turned all that gingerbread into 'TJ's Gas Station'.

"We had a lot of fun making our gas station. It was harder than we had expected, we especially didn't anticipate winning anything." -- Jessica Howell and Antonia Romano.

Luiz Giacomelli and Carolina Cavallini, exchange students from Brazil, put together their 'Casa de Brasil'.

"They taste good, and consequently must be very pretty." -- Luiz Giacomelli

Melanie Huston and Hilary Lewis add the finishing touches to their 'Christmas Church'. "The project was a lot of hard work, but I truly enjoyed myself and I'm glad I had such a good partner to work with." -- Hilary Lewis

The Final Product

Jordan Beard, Brock Coulter, and Calvin Locklear with their creation, 'Untitled'.

"I had fun doing this project and I think it turned out well" -- Jordan Beard

La-Quieta Pinkston with her 'Taste Like Candy'.

"I think our house is very cute and colorful, I had a lot of fun making it." -- Falon Altizer
